The first book is believed to contain every entry of birth, marriage, and death recorded in
Boston
during the first seventy years of its existence and every entry of baptism on the records of the
First
Church
for the same period. Some 50,000 persons are named in the four classes of records.
The second book contains all births recorded between 1700 and 1800, an additional 60,000 persons.
