Here is a Stanley No.100 B TD Take Down Square Sweetheart 1919-20 Sweethart Era Logo Early Type 1 Very Scarce & Rare Tool
Based on my research There are 3 finishes that were applied to this square I have no idea which this one is.
It would be according to my eye, a Brownish-Black color.
24" in length with a 8/18/1914 patent date manufactured from 1919-1947
The idea was a good one in my opinion to "take down" the most akward tool a carpenter carries.
The drawback was keeping it true (square), so a sliding dovetail construction was implamented.
Originally it came with a canvass carring case and a key to take it down. (both missing)
As far as condition - Well see the pictures.
I am not gonna try to take it apart, actually I do not even know if it will come apart, without damaging it.
A little elbow greese and some real greese and it may unlock?
Its fairly straight after all these years, no major dings and most of the writing is legible.
By the way it does lie flat the board I took the picture on is warped.
Overall in my opinion an amazing "farm" yard sale find.
Very Rarely Seen On Ebay Or Anywhere Else!
