    Description

Here we offer a very beautiful Antique Victorian Cheese Dish. It may have also been a holder for pastry. This wonderful piece is a large & a bit heavy piece of Art Pottery from the latter part of the 19th century. It is amazing how families took such great care of it to this point today. The piece has no chips, cracks nor repairs that we can detect. They may be a tiny something we are missing. We are putting up 12 pictures for a better Visual description. The piece has a beautiful sculptured finial & has all kinds of botanical flowers applied to the outside of the dome & the border of the base. No computers back then. This piece was entirely hand made by the Artisans, & watched each time it was fired. In the style of the most famous Wedgwood Jasperware of the time, this beautiful dish was used to decorate the Victorian Table & Sideboard, & not used as an everyday serving piece.
The piece is only marked with the impressed numbers 622 on both the inside of the Dome & the bottom of the base. Companies of the time did not encourage their Artists to always sign their names or initials. Law was not required that the country of Origin be marked on the bottom of China pieces until the 1890s. Mainly with the USA in the lead with marking in the law of the McKinley Tariff Act. So this is very typical of earlier Victorian pieces to be unmarked. Thus we do not know for sure which China maker made this piece. It looks very much like Wedgwood Stoneware, but could be any of their competitors & even German Mettlach or French Limoges. We believe it is English in our opinion. We guarantee it to be Antique 19th century hand made.  A beautiful example of Victorian Art Pottery.  Email for any questions or more pictures.
